  • This is one of the hardest decisions any pet owner faces. We’re here to guide you with kindness and can provide quality of life assessments if you need help deciding.

For guidance in making this difficult decision, you can also review The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center’s Quality of Life Assessment Guide (PDF), which offers tools and questions to help evaluate your pet’s wellbeing.

  • We offer three different packages depending on whether you’d like a home burial, cremation without ashes returned, or individual cremation with ashes returned.

We also offer The Pet Gifting Scheme, which provides cremation free of charge as a thank-you for your pet’s gentle donation. By choosing this option, you enable qualified vets to refine vital surgical skills and develop new procedures that will go on to help other pets in the future. You can choose to have your pet’s ashes privately cremated and returned to you within six months, or, if you prefer not to receive ashes, a donation will be made to a charity of your choice in your pet’s name.

  • The more notice we have, the easier it is to arrange everything calmly. We do understand that this isn’t always possible and will always try to support you, even at short notice. In most cases we can offer an appointment within two to three days, often the same or next day, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

    Contact Us

  • You don’t need to do anything special to prepare—other than giving your pet plenty of extra cuddles and maybe a few favourite treats. Some families like to offer a special meal or take their pet for a favourite walk beforehand. During the visit, you might choose a quiet spot where your pet feels most comfortable, perhaps with a familiar blanket or toy. Others find comfort in lighting a candle or playing gentle music. Whatever feels right for you and your pet is perfect.

  • Please get in touch right away. We know things can change quickly, and we’ll do all we can to come sooner if needed.

  • Our gentle, hands-off approach is especially helpful for anxious pets. We always give a sedative injection before the euthanasia injection, so your pet can relax peacefully. Before the visit, we will speak with you by phone to discuss your pet’s specific needs.

  • At the start of the visit there will be a consent form and we’ll answer any questions you have.

Every pet is given a sedative injection, which allows us to take a gentle, hands-off approach. When you’re ready, we give a small sedation injection - then step out so you can have private time while your pet relaxes and drifts into a gentle sleep. After about 10–15 minutes, only once your pet is fully and deeply asleep, will we return to give a final anaesthetic injection so they pass away peacefully.

    Learn more about the process

  • Yes—most families do, but it’s completely your choice. You may stay by their side for the whole process, or step out if it feels too overwhelming.

  • We use a high dose of anaesthetic medication that works quickly and painlessly. Your pet simply falls into a deep sleep. Sometimes small movements or breaths happen afterwards—these are natural reflexes and don’t mean your pet is in distress.

  • Yes, other pets are always welcome to be present. Many families find it comforting to include them, as they are an important part of the family too. Having familiar companions nearby can create a peaceful atmosphere and may bring comfort both to you and to them.

Allowing your other pets to be present also gives them the opportunity to understand what has happened, rather than waiting for their friend to suddenly not return. This can help reduce confusion or distress afterwards, as animals often pick up on absence and change.

We encourage you to do what feels right for you and your family. Some pets may choose to stay close throughout, while others may come and go. There is no right or wrong way — it’s about creating the most gentle and loving environment possible.

  • You are welcome to make your own arrangements, which may include a home burial or organising a cremation independently.

If you would like us to help with cremation, you will have time to say goodbye to your beloved pet while they are at rest. When you are ready, we will return with a bed and blankets, and this is how we will gently take them with us.

  • We’re always happy to help you cherish your beloved pet’s memory. We provide complimentary keepsakes including a small bottle of fur, ink paw prints and ink nose prints (dogs only).

These are prepared after the visit and will be delivered alongside your pet’s ashes, or posted via Royal Mail Recorded Delivery if you choose not to have ashes returned, or if you are awaiting private cremation as part of the Veterinary Education Programme.

  • Yes, many families choose to bury their pet in a special place at home. It just needs to be on land you own, away from water, and with enough soil covering your pet. This helps keep everything safe and respectful.

  • No — we don’t ask for payment during the appointment, as we feel your focus should be entirely on your pet and your family at that time. Instead, we will send an invoice by email a couple of days afterwards. Payment can be made by bank transfer (details are provided on the invoice), or if you would prefer to pay by card, we can send you a secure payment link via email.

  • Payment is made directly to Forget Me Not Pets following the visit. If your pet insurance covers end-of-life care, you’re welcome to submit a claim afterwards and we’ll gladly provide any details needed to support your claim.

As a small independent business, we’re unable to offer payment plans and we appreciate your understanding.
