What to Expect During a Home Pet Euthanasia Visit

Many families worry about what will actually happen during home pet euthanasia. Understanding the process can ease anxiety and help you feel prepared when the time comes.

Before the visit

When you contact us, we’ll discuss your wishes — where in your home you’d like the procedure to take place, who will be present, and any keepsakes you’d like. This ensures everything feels personal and respectful.

On the day

The vet will arrive at your home at the arranged time. They’ll explain the process, answer any questions, and ask you to sign a consent form.

  • First, a gentle sedative is given — this helps your pet relax and drift into a calm sleep.

  • After around 10–15 minutes, a second injection is given. This is an overdose of anaesthetic, ensuring your pet passes away peacefully, without pain or distress.

Aftercare options

Once your pet has passed, you may choose:

  • Home burial (if you have the space and it’s permitted).

  • Cremation without ashes returned.

  • Individual cremation with ashes returned, often in a vessel or urn of your choice.

A peaceful goodbye

The entire process is gentle, calm, and handled with dignity. Families often choose home euthanasia so their pet’s final moments are spent in their favourite spot — whether curled up on a blanket, in the garden, or surrounded by loved ones.
